A family business,
two decades in.
We started with a short list of restaurants, a van, and a promise: the product you order on Tuesday will be on the shelf by Thursday, at the price we quoted.
Twenty-three years later, the list is a lot longer — thousands of SKUs moving through a 50,000 square foot warehouse in Scarborough — but the promise hasn't changed. We still source directly from our partners in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States and Singapore, and we still have buyers on the ground at origin who know the difference between this year's crop and last year's.
Our customers are mainstream supermarkets and corner grocers, white-tablecloth restaurants and neighbourhood noodle shops, wholesalers who resell by the pallet and families who come in for a single case of rice. We don't distinguish between them. Everyone gets the real price. Everyone gets the real product.
“We have specialists in Asia to purchase high-quality Asian food according to our customers’ needs.”— THE QIJI FAMILY, EST. 2003
